A young engineer, Mars Kapadia, has just shown off "the world's first Transparent Organic Light Emitting Diode (TOLED) smart glasses" on a video he shared on YouTube.
In his video, which you can watch below, Kapadia details how he went open source so as to avoid the high price of developer keys and private APIs.

As explained in his video, Kapadia chose the accessible Arduino Nano Every for his smart glasses as it supports the SPI and ULAGIC video library. The smart glasses use Bluetooth LE so as to transfer a low data rate at the same time as not sapping too much energy, making it usable for wearable technology.
The device is also rigged together with an SF10 lithium-polymer battery running in parallel.
"The reason that I run in parallel is that I'll be able to achieve more charging cycles, and I'll be able to have an even weight reduction based on the glasses," Kapadia explains in his video.
Kapadia's is an impressive display of technology building from someone who will likely go far in the tech world. Neat touches, like hinged sunglass visors that mean the device can be used at any time of day, show Kapadia's creative credentials.
In a Reddit post in which Kapadia shared his video, he stated that the glasses took 3 months to build and that he presented them at his local science fair. He also explained to one commenter that his glasses probably won't be mass-produced any time soon as he is "only 16 right now." He did, however, say that he will be working on a v2 in which he will aim to run Android on his wearable device.
With a name like that and the initiative and smarts he's showing at such a young age, we could see Mars Kapadia working for SpaceX, or another company looking for similarly bright tech enthusiasts, in the future.
