If you love spending your time watching superhero movies, then 2020 is shaping up to be another good year for you on the silver screen. Here are some of the best superhero films coming to a cinema near you this year.

Lucky you!

What is the best superhero movie?

Like anything of this nature, what you might consider "the best" of anything is a very personal matter. Different generations will also likely disagree.

But, that being said, there are some superhero movies that are widely considered great examples. According to sites like The Vulture, some of the best superhero films to date are as follows:

  1. Black Panther (2018)
  2. Logan (2017)
  3. Unbreakable (2000)
  4. The Dark Knight (2008)
  5. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
  6. The Avengers (2012)
  7. The Incredibles (2004)
  8. Batman Begins (2005)

Who is the most famous superhero?

There are many great superheroes out there, but some of them are more famous than others. It may, or may not surprise you to learn that the most widely recognized superheroes around the globe are Batman and Superman.

"Unsurprisingly, DC's Batman and Superman finished's study as the first and second most-famous superheroes, respectively. Marvel's Wolverine [was] anointed as [the] third most-famous superhero." - The Observer.

What are some of the best superhero films coming in 2020?

So, without further ado, here are some of the most anticipated superhero films set for release in 2020. This list is far from exhaustive and is in no particular order.

1. "Black Widow" is coming in May of 2020

"Black Widow" starring Scarlett Johansson is due for release in May of 2020. This is to be one of only two Marvel Entertainment movies for next year.

It is also one of the most highly anticipated MCU heroine films yet. Johansson will be reprising her role as the "Black Widow" after almost ten years since the character's first appearance in "Iron Man 2".

The movie is touted as exploring Black Widow's origins and should answer some questions about the Red Room, her time in Budapest and the red in her ledger. It is set between "Captain America: Civil War" and "Avengers: Infinity War".

For fans of the universe, this is set to be a great watch for next year.

2. "Morbius" looks promising

"Morbius" is yet another superhero film due for release in 2020. The film is based around the Marvel comic character of the same name.

He is a living vampire who was initially a biochemist who became imbued with vampiric abilities and physical traits after an experiment went awry. Morbius started out as a villain but later morphed into something of a tragic anti-hero.

Jared Leto takes on the role of Morbius with his nemesis being Loxias Crown. Crown is a new creation for the universe who appears to be loosely based on the comic villain Crown.

3. "Venom 2" should be hitting the silver screen in October of 2020

The highly anticipated sequel to the surprise box office smash that was "Venom", it is due for release in October of this year. Its predecessor made a cool $800 million worldwide and surpassed every X-Men movie at the time of release.

"Venom 2" is hoping to build on this huge success, and Tom Hardy is set to return in the movie. The premise of the movie was teased at the end of "Venom" that revealed Woody Harrelson as symbiotic Carnage, thus setting him up as the antagonist of this film.

It is also reported that Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man might actually cameo in this sequel. We shall see if these rumors are, of course, true.

4. "The New Mutants" is due in April 2020

Shot in 2017, "The New Mutants" is planned for release in April of 2020. But take this with a 'pinch of salt' as the movie has already been delayed twice -- first scheduled for February 2019 and then August of the same year.

No reasons were given, but some reports suggest that reshoots were needed to alter the horror-tone of the movie.

"The last Fox X-Men movie to be released, The New Mutants is a horror offshoot that was intended to be the start of a new trilogy, but now will be a smaller scale standalone. Despite the prior reports of extensive reshoots happening, director Josh Boone recently insisted the released version will be his original cut." - Screen Rant.

5. "Bloodshot" is due for release in March 2020

"Bloodshot" is the only non-Marvel or DC related superhero movie to be released this year. Take that for what you will, but it should be an interesting break from the torrent of Marvel/DC movies out there.

Based on the Valiant Comics' character of the same name, Vin Diesel stars as the titular "superhero".

The story revolves around Ray Garrison, a U.S. Marine, who is assassinated along with his wife. A team of scientists manages to resurrect him, upgrading him with nanotechnology to become a super-soldier called Bloodshot.

At first, this plan works a treat, until he begins to remember his past and develops a lust for revenge.

6. "Birds of Prey" looks interesting

"Birds of Prey", or "Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn)" to give it its full title is set for release in February of 2020. Primarily based around the Marvel character Harley Quinn, this movie might be one of the most interesting watches of this year.

Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Quinn, while the actual Birds of Prey - will be played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress.

"Birds of Prey will see Gotham’s (anti)heroines teaming up against Black Mask, who’ll be portrayed by Ewan McGregor." - Screen Rant.

7. "Wonder Woman 1984" is coming in June 2020

The highly-anticipated sequel to "Wonder Woman", "Wonder Woman 1984", is due for release in the Summer of 2020. It was originally scheduled for release late last year but Warner Brothers are banking on a June release being more financially successful -- like its predecessor.

"The story will take a giant leap forward to the 1980s, but Wonder Woman will still be involved in warfare - this time swapping World War I for the Cold War. Intriguingly, Chris Pine is also going to return, although exactly how Steve Trevor manages to come back remains to be seen.

However, there are some rumors suggesting Diana will make a deal with a deity to resurrect Steve." - Screen Rant.
